McFarlane seeks second term as Raleigh mayor
Mayor Nancy McFarlane kicked off her re-election campaign Wednesday, filing the paperwork to seek a second two-year term as Raleigh's chief executive.

“I’m honored to be your mayor and very proud of all we’ve accomplished in the past two years,” McFarlane said in a statement. “This city has come a long way, and I’m excited to continue the work to keep Raleigh moving forward.”
She said her experience will help the city deal with a possible renegotiation of a lease for the state-owned Dorothea Dix property, which Raleigh hopes to turn into a major park near downtown, and with needed updates to local infrastructure.
“In the past two years, we’ve seen thousands of jobs and millions of investment dollars come to Raleigh,” McFarlane said. “Small businesses and large companies alike are finding out that relocating to the Capital City is a move toward success, but there is still plenty left to be done.”
No other candidates have filed to run for Raleigh mayor, but the filing period remains open until July 19.
