McCrory erases Facebook posts challenging lawmakers

Gov. Pat McCrory had used Facebook to give the names and phone numbers of lawmakers. Those posts no longer show up on the social media site.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Gov. Pat McCrory apparently has had second thoughts about a series of Facebook posts that challenged lawmakers to sustain his vetoes of two bills.

Lawmakers will return to session on Sept. 3 in order to re-vote both bills, and top legislative leaders say they expect to override the vetoes in question.

Earlier this week, McCrory had used his Facebook account to give the names and office phone numbers of individual lawmakers, asking constituents to call and tell them "to sustain my vetoes of fiscally irresponsible & job-killing legislation: HB 392 & HB 786."

Those posts are now erased, with no explanation appended to the site.

"Once the date was set for lawmakers to come back, we changed strategies," said McCrory spokesman Ryan Tronovitch. He pointed to an graphic that governor put up in place of the earlier posts.

The vetoed bills involve drug tests for welfare applicants and the use of the E-verify system to check the immigration status of seasonal workers.
