Mark your calendars to see Washington's teeth

The N.C. Museum of History willl be host to a traveling exhibit about George Washington, which includes his dentures.

The N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh will host the traveling exhibition Discover the Real George Washington: New Views From Mount Vernon during its national tour this fall.

Visitors will get to see about 100 original objects associated with George Washington, including the only surviving complete set of his dentures (which I've seen a picture of and, let me just say, aren't pretty). The exhibit will run from Sept. 10 to Jan. 21.

The exhibit traces the history of Washington not only as a general and president, but as a young land surveyor, experimental farmer and savvy entrepreneur. You'll find wax, life-size figures of Washington created after a forensic study of portraits, sculpture, those dentures and clothing; videos; and interactive displays. The exhibit also explores the influence of Martha Washington and includes some of her jewelry and china and a reproduction of her gold wedding dress and purple satin slippers.

Admission will be free for ages 18 and under. The fee will $10 for ages 19 and up; $8 for senior citizens, active military personnel and students with an ID.
