Marines return to Lejeune following deployments
Hundreds of Camp Lejeune Marines are returning to base this week following overseas deployments.
Posted — UpdatedAbout 2,300 members of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit spent more than 10 months in North Africa and Europe.
"It feels awesome (to be home). We got everything done out there, and now it's time to be back here," Sgt. Corey Smith said.
"As a parent, with war and all, we kind of tried to persuade him in other directions, but this was his heart – nothing would do him but to be a Marine," said Nikki McDaniel, whose son returned home.
Meanwhile, about 150 Marines and sailors from the 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force are returning after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan. The group deployed approximately 500 Marines and sailors in support of the International Security Assistance Force.
