HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Authorities on Monday arrested a man wanted in connection with a chase last week that spanned three counties in which shots were fired at law enforcement officers.

Agents with the U.S. Marshals Service, along with North Carolina State Highway Patrol Task Force troopers apprehended Ireshia Donte Summers, 33, at a home on Piney Grove Church Road near Hillsborough, authorities said.

Summers was placed in the Granville County jail and was charged with possession of stolen goods, assault by pointing a gun, assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, breaking and entering, resisting a public officer and possession of a firearm by a felon. He also will face a number of traffic violations, authorities said.

A Granville County deputy responding to a breaking and entering report at a house began chasing two men Thursday morning. Highway Patrol troopers joined the chase in Wake County and followed the men into Durham, where the passenger in the fleeing vehicle began firing at the law enforcement officers.

The men eventually stopped near N.C. Highway 98 and Mineral Springs Road, jumped out of their vehicle and ran, troopers said. Authorities captured the alleged shooter, Jason Lamar Medlyn, a short time later.

Medlyn, 30, of 2816 Cadillac Ave. in Durham, was being held Monday in the Durham County jail under a $1 million bond. He has been charged with two counts each breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods and one count each of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, fleeing arrest with a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Three schools and a day care center in Durham were locked down Thursday afternoon as authorities searched for Summers, who they said was driving the fleeing vehicle.
