Man struck, killed by tractor trailer along I-95 in Johnston County

Highway Patrol troopers said the accident happened in the northbound lanes near exit 90 just outside of Smithfield.

Authorities said that the man's vehicle had a flat tire and two other people in the car got out and walked to a nearby store for help. The man, who was identified as Najja Manu Gray, 36, of Rocky Mount, pulled into the center divider to stay behind with the vehicle. He was struck when he got out of the car.

Authorities said Gray died instantly.
