CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police said Wednesday they are searching for a man who robbed the Red Roof Inn on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard earlier this week.

The incident happened about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, when a man walked into the lobby of the hotel and spoke briefly with the front-desk clerk. He returned a short time later and demanded money after showing a handgun, police said.

The man fled in a two-tone gray truck that may have had a camper shell on it.

The suspect is described as a slim, white male in his mid-20s to mid-30s with brown hair, brown eyes and a thin beard.

Anyone with information is asked to call Chapel Hill police at 919-968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515. Crime Stoppers pays a cash reward for information leading to an arrest, and callers never have to identify themselves.
