Man shot on porch of Rocky Mount home

Police were investigating after a man was shot while sitting on a porch at a Marlee Drive home late Wednesday.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Police were investigating after a man was shot while sitting on a porch at a Marlee Drive home late Wednesday.

Christopher Bunn told police that he and some friends were sitting on the porch at 708 Marlee Drive around 10:30 p.m. when two men came around from the side of the house, firing guns. The victims said one of the attackers wore black clothing and a bandanna over his face and carried a shotgun.

Police said that Bunn was hit in the left shoulder and that the gunmen fled the scene on foot.

Bunn went to 611 N. Glendale Ave. for help and was taken to Nash General Hospital, police said. He was transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. His condition was stable Thursday morning.

Police K-9 units searched the area but did not find any suspects.

After responding to the shooting, officers obtained to a warrant to search the house and found drugs inside, authorities said.

Officers arrested a resident, Hilliard Garrett, and charged him with trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell marijuana, possession of more than an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for the production of a controlled substance.

Garrett was being held in the Edgecombe County Jail under a $78,000 bond Thursday morning.
