Halifax County sheriff's investigators say a woman's boyfriend allegedly beat her multiple times with a baseball bat Saturday night.

<b>ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C.</b> — Authorities say a man was shot while sitting in a parked car Saturday night outside a convenience store near Roanoke Rapids.

The shooting happened at Marathon Gas Station on U.S. Highway 158 around 9 p.m.  The motive appeared to be robbery, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was taken to Halifax Regional Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Sunday morning.

Investigators have not arrested a suspect.
