Man shot during home break-in identified

Durham police on Friday released the name of a man shot and killed during a home break-in on Ross Road early Tuesday.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police on Friday released the name of a man shot and killed during a home break-in on Ross Road early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Lemuel Zekena Sherman, 27, of Durham. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michael Lee Hall, 27, of Durham, was arrested a short time later and charged with three counts of first-degree kidnapping and one count each of first-degree burglary, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and impersonation of a law enforcement officer.

Hall was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon and first-degree kidnapping in 2000, according to state Department of Correction records. He served a 7-year prison sentence.

Sherman had also been convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon and was on probation for being an accessory to attempted assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, DOC records show.
