Man seriously injured in wreck, charged with DWI
A Goldsboro man who was seriously injured in a wreck early Saturday faces charges of driving while impaired.
Posted — UpdatedState troopers said that Jose Fonseca, 24, of Goldsboro, was involved in a single-vehicle wreck on Wayne Memorial Drive, about three miles north of Goldsboro, around 4 a.m. Fonseca was ejected from the vehicle.
Fonseca was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. His injuries are serious enough that they might cause paralysis, troopers said. He was listed in critical condition Saturday afternoon.
Investigators said that alcohol and speed were factors in the wreck.
Troopers charged Fonseca with DWI, driving without an operator's license, reckless driving and a seat-belt violation.
Fonseca has a previous conviction for DWI in Wayne County from 2005, according to state Department of Correction records.
