Man seriously injured in Southern Pines shooting

A 19-year-old man was airlifted to UNC Hospitals late Friday after being shot four times in his car on Service Road in Southern Pines, officials with the town's fire department said.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — A 19-year-old man was airlifted to UNC Hospitals late Friday after being shot four times in his car on Service Road in Southern Pines, officials with the town's fire department said. 

Authorities responded to the area, near the West Morganton Road exit off U.S. Highway 1, around 11 p.m. 

According to the Aberdeen Times, the man and a woman had pulled off the highway after running out of gas.

The man's name and condition have not been released, but Southern Pines officials said the woman was not injured. The man was originally taken to Moore Regional Hospital before being transported to Chapel Hill.

No other information was released.
