Man pleads guilty in 2007 Orange County slaying

One of three men charged with gunning down a woman in her Orange County home two years ago pleaded guilty Monday, authorities said.

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — One of three men charged with gunning down a woman in her Orange County home two years ago pleaded guilty Monday, authorities said.

Reshaun Cates, 22, of Durham, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed robbery in the Nov. 26, 2007, slaying of Eva Jacobs during a break-in at her Cedar Grove home. He was sentenced to 12 to 16 years in prison.

Jacobs died after she called 911 about a break-in in progress at her home on Compton Road. Prosecutors said that a shotgun and $300 worth of marijuana were stolen from the home.

Doné Octavous Johnson, 22, of Hillsborough, and Montez Antonio Stevons, 22, of Durham, also were charged in the case.
