FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man was killed Saturday night when he tried to move a disabled vehicle off the street in Fayetteville at about 9 p.m. His identity has not been released.

Two men, who apparently knew each other, were traveling in separate vehicles northbound on Highway 401, also known as Ramsey Street, when one of the vehicles became disabled, according to the Highway Patrol.

The two men got out of their vehicles and attempted to push the broken down vehicle to the side of the road.

The vehicle was on an incline and the men had a hard time pushing it northbound. They attempted to turn the vehicle around and steer it southbound so it could coast to the side of the road, authorities said.

One of the men stood in front of the disabled vehicle to help the other man steer it correctly. A Chevy Tahoe traveling southbound came over the hill and struck the man standing in the road with the disabled vehicle, officials said.

The man died at the scene. The man steering the disabled vehicle and the two people in the Tahoe suffered minor injuries, officials said.
