Man killed in Fayetteville wreck

An 85-year-old man died Tuesday night from injuries sustained in a vehicle wreck.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An 85-year-old man died Tuesday night from injuries sustained in a vehicle wreck.

Joseph Wade Peterson was turning left from Ramsey Street onto Cumberland Street at about 6 p.m. when he drove into the path of a Farm Chemicals Inc. truck driven by Paul Elkins, 45, Fayetteville police said. Peterson was making the turn while the stoplight was flashing yellow for his direction of travel, police said.

Peterson was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he later died. Elkins was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
