Man Killed by Train in Durham

A Durham man died Wednesday evening when he was hit by a freight train in western Durham, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man died Wednesday evening after he was hit by a freight train in western Durham, police said.
Mark Robert Stauffenberg, 47, of Green Lane Drive, was lying on the tracks behind National Jewelry and Pawn, in the 3100 block of Hillsborough Road, when he was struck by a westbound Norfolk & Southern freight train at about 6:10 p.m., police said.

Stauffenberg was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
