A man was killed Wednesday night after he was hit by a vehicle near WakeMed.

<b>RALEIGH, N.C.</b> — A man was killed Wednesday night after he was hit by a vehicle near WakeMed.

Richard Lamar Caldwell, 45, was walking west and had just crossed the outbound lanes of New Bern Avenue near Millburnie Road when he was struck in the inbound lanes by a car, according to Raleigh police.

Caldwell taken to WakeMed, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver, Jessika Mariya Lewis, 22, of Caldwell, was not hurt. 

Police said Caldwell was not in the crosswalk when he was struck, and no charges were filed against Lewis.
