Prosecutors to seek death penalty against suspect in fatal Carolina Beach condo fires
A New Hanover County grand jury on Monday indicted a Kure Beach man on more than three dozen charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, in connection with a series of condominium fires at Carolina Beach in December.

Marshall Hudson Doran, 22, of Kure Beach, was indicted last month on more than three dozen charges, including two counts of first-degree murder in the Dec. 7 fires that killed Darlene Ann Maslar, 43, and Mary Angeline Cochran, 72, and destroyed 12 beachfront condominiums.
Investigators haven't commented on a motive for the fires.
Among the other charges, Doran also faces 11 counts of attempted first-degree murder, 10 counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of first-degree arson and three counts of cruelty to animals.
In addition to the New Hanover County charges, Doran faces two counts of felony death by motor vehicle in Wake County, where he was arrested in February 2014 in the hit-and-run deaths of two men helping a stranded motorist on Interstate 40.
According to court calendars that case is scheduled to be back in court March 16.
