Man hospitalized after Fayetteville shooting; person in custody

An unidentified person was taken into custody late Wednesday after a shooting near the intersection of Morgan and Bryan streets, Fayetteville police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 31-year-old man was charged Thursday in connection with a shooting the night before near the intersection of Morgan and Bryan streets, Fayetteville police said. 

Officers responding to Highsmith Rainey Hospital about 10:30 p.m. found Lamont Everrett, 36, with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was in critical condition Thursday, police said. 

Jason McKnight was taken into custody and charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and discharging a weapon into occupied property.

He was held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond.

Police did not release a possible motive for the shooting.
