Man driving stolen truck crashes on U.S. 70

A man driving a stolen pickup truck crashed along U.S. Highway 70 near Clayton early Sunday, state troopers said.

CLAYTON, N.C. — A man driving a stolen pickup truck crashed along U.S. Highway 70 near Clayton early Sunday, state troopers said.

Michael Puryear, 39, lost control of the pickup, and it overturned on U.S. 70 East, near U.S. 70 Business, around 1:45 a.m., troopers said. Puryear suffered minor injuries and was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.

Troopers said the 1999 GMC pickup truck was reported stolen in Clayton on Saturday.

Troopers charged Puryear with driving while impaired, reckless driving and driving with a revoked license. Clayton police also might file charges against him.
