SELMA, N.C. — A Selma man has been charged with stealing materials from numerous construction sites in Wake and Johnston counties, police said Tuesday.

During a search of a Selma home, Johnston County deputies found a barn filled with construction materials, many from building sites in Cary, police said.

The following items were recovered in the investigation: 50 appliances, 25 light fixtures, 203 windows, 143 doors, 22 tools, 368 boxes of wood flooring, 142 boxes of tile, 17 Jacuzzi tubs, seven water heaters, 21 cabinets and miscellaneous construction items.

“We’ve already been able to return numerous items to their owners,” Lt. Steve Fonke of the Cary Police Department said in a statement. “Many of the remaining items are still in the boxes and were most likely stolen from new home construction sites, so we’re focusing our efforts on reaching out to builders who believe they have items among the stolen property.”

Police said Clifton Ray Moore, 61, of 467 Gor An Farm Road in Selma, who uses a wheelchair, oversaw the theft operation. Johnston County authorities have charged him with numerous counts of possession of stolen property, and charges against him in Cary are pending.

Contractors who believe their property is among the stolen items are asked to call Cary police Detective Lillian Royal at 919-462-3810.
