Man charged with raping girl in Cumberland County
A Robeson County man was charged Thursday in the reported rape of a young girl in Cumberland County.

Lathan Laverne Jones, 38, of 442 Odessey Lane in Shannon, was charged with first-degree rape and taking indecent liberties with a child.
The victim described the situation to an adult, who called law enforcement, said Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said the alleged abuse took over the past several months while Jones was in Cumberland County.
Jones was placed in the Cumberland Count Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for Friday afternoon.
