Man charged with murder in Seven Springs man's death

A 55-year-old man has been charged in the Sunday morning slaying of a Seven Springs man, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.

SEVEN SPRINGS, N.C. — A 55-year-old man has been charged in the Sunday morning slaying of a Seven Springs man, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.

Craig Bernard Melvin, of 113 Al Drive, in Seven Springs, was charged with murder in the death of 49-year-old Morris Timothy Holmes.

According to investigators, deputies responded to 113 Al Drive at about 6 a.m. in reference to an assault.

Holmes was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, deputies said. Investigators said Holmes was stabbed.

Melvin was being held without bond.
