Man Charged with Car Salvaging Scheme

Douglas Johnson McGee III, 27, allegedly towed broken down vehicles from along Interstate 95 and NC 24 and took them to a salvage yard and sold them for scrap metal.

TURKEY, N.C. — Douglas Johnson McGee III, 27, of 1354 Bowden Road in Turkey, was arrested Tuesday for stealing and re-selling cars in Cumberland County.

McGee allegedly towed broken down vehicles from along Interstate 95 and NC 24 and took them to a salvage yard and sold them for scrap metal. Investigators said McGee’s illegal business has netted him thousands of dollars over the past several months.

McGee is charged with three counts of larceny of a motor vehicle and three counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Additional charges are pending.

He was charged and released under a $10,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for todayat 2:00 p.m.
