Man charged with burglarizing Raleigh home during funeral
Three north Raleigh homes have been broken into in recent weeks while families have been attending funerals, police said.
Posted — UpdatedThe string of burglaries started on Oct. 28 at a home in the 2600 block of Crofton Springs Drive. The following week, similar break-ins occurred in the 2900 block of Englefield Drive and the 7100 block of Joydon Court, police said.
All three homes are within 3 miles of each other, off Durant Road and Perry Creek Road.
The Joydon Court resident declined to comment, except to say that the burglary on top of a funeral amounted to "a very sad situation."
Englefield Drive residents said the woman whose home was broken into was at her daughter's funeral at the time.
Timothy John Burns, 26, of 1107 Silvershire Way in Knightdale, was charged Thursday with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering in connection with the Crofton Springs Drive burglary.
Burns hasn't been charged in the other two incidents, but according to a search warrant, police are examining his cellphone for any evidence that might link him to those crimes.
