Man charged with arranging own home invasion

Rashaad A’Keem Yarborough, 19, of 507 N. Poplar St., was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was being held Monday in the Wake County jail under a $50,000 bond.

Marion Palmer Yarborough, 40, and Carlton Darnell Montague, 51, both of 808 Weston St. in Raleigh, were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Marion Yarborough also was charged with assault by pointing a gun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Marion Yarborough, who is Rashaad Yarborough's uncle, was being held Monday under a $100,000 bond, while Montague was being held under a $75,000 bond.

Zebulon officers responded to a reported home invasion at 507 N. Poplar St. at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday and found Gladerene Pretty, 64, unharmed but visibly shaken, police said. Pretty told police that Rashaad Yarborough, her foster son, was outside the house when two masked people approached him, brandished a handgun and forced him inside. The robbers held Pretty and Yarborough at gunpoint and took cash, jewelry and documents from the home before fleeing in a nearby vehicle, she told police.

Investigators determined that Rashaad Yarborough planned the home invasion with the two robbers, police said. His two accomplices were arrested in Raleigh, where most of the stolen cash, jewelry and other stolen items were recovered, police said.

State Department of Correction records show that Montague was sentenced to life in prison in 1979 for two counts of second-degree murder in Wake County. It's unclear when he was released from prison.

DOC records also show that Marion Yarborough was released from prison in April after serving 14 months for common-law robbery. He has spent nearly 12 of the past 22 year in prison for various convictions, including armed robbery, felony breaking and entering and possession of a firearm by a felon.
