Man accused of shooting, assaulting women at Raleigh home

Jaquan Deandre Avery-Kennedy, 21, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection to a shooting that occurred just before 12:30 p.m. at a home at 7040 Barlows Knoll St.

Police said that Kennedy shot Torri Ameaka Boyd, 38, in the neck. She was taken to WakeMed for treatment, but authorities have not released information about her condition.

Kennedy was also charged with assault on a female and battery of an unborn child for a domestic altercation that took place at the home prior to the shooting. Police said that charge concerns injuries sustained by Diarra Monia Patterson, 21, who is seven months pregnant with Kennedy's child.

Authorities said that Boyd arrived at the Barlows Knoll Street home to protect Patterson, who is her niece, from a domestic violence situation.

Kennedy was being held at the Wake County Detention Center without bond. He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
