Man charged in Sanford teen's death

Allen Junior Fields II, of 414 Maple Ave. in Sanford, was charged with murder in the Wednesday night shooting death of 17-year-old Shamika Nikkia Lett.

Lett shot in the head while walking along Hickory Avenue, at Fourth Street. Officers found her lying in street, and she was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where she died.

Police haven't released details about a possible motive in the shooting.

Fields was being held without bond at the Lee County Jail.

According to state Department of Correction records, Fields was convicted of communicating threats in Lee County on July 28. He was sentenced to probation.
