Man charged in New Hanover County shooting

A 29-year-old man is charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with a shooting that happened in New Hanover County earlier this month.

CASTLE HAYNE, N.C. — A 29-year-old man is charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with a shooting that happened in New Hanover County earlier this month.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies said they went to 3221 Woolwitch Court in Castle Hayne about 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 for a report of shots fired. When they arrived, they found a woman with a gunshot wound.

The woman was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. Information on her condition was not available.

Detectives obtained warrants for Rusty Christopher Randall, who was arrested by Pender County sheriff’s deputies on unrelated charges. In addition to the charge of attempted first-degree murder, Randall is charged with misdemeanor assault on a female, first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or serious injury.

He was held at the New Hanover County Detention Center under a $1 million bond.
