Man charged in Cumberland County chase

A 48-year-old Hope Mills man was arrested and charged with leading Cumberland County deputies on a vehicle chase and throwing a handgun and drugs from his vehicle during the pursuit.

A 48-year-old Hope Mills man was arrested and charged with leading Cumberland County deputies on a vehicle chase and throwing a handgun and drugs from his vehicle during the pursuit.

James Lemontreall Jones III, of 4804 Kiara Drive, is charged with felony felling to elude arrest, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and/or deliver cocaine and misdemeanor resisting a public officer. He was held at the Cumberland County jail Wednesday under a $100,000 bond.

Jones is accused of leading authorities on a chase Tuesday evening after a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on N.C. Highway 87 near Old Wilmington Highway. Jones was apprehended after jumping from his vehicle on Interstate 95 North at mile marker 47.
