Man barricaded in Fayetteville home exits for sandwich, cigarettes
A man barricaded himself inside a home in the 2800 block of Morganton Road Sunday morning, sparking a standoff, according to Fayetteville police.

According to authorities, Darryl Reed Hester Jr., 54, of the 800 block of Pine Ridge Circle in Bladenboro, broke into a home at about 9:30 a.m. and was quickly chased out by a couple inside. He fired shots at the couple before running into an unoccupied home at 2824 Morganton Road.
Morganton Road, between Cliffdale Road and North Herndon Street, was closed to traffic as officers and SWAT team members surrounded the home.
Authorities said that Hester would not communicate with officers and, after confirming the residents of the home were safe, the decision was made to negotiate with the suspect in hopes of peaceful resolution.
Witnesses on the scene said that the Hester finally came out of the home just after 2:30 p.m., after the police chief brought him a turkey sandwich and a pack of Newport cigarettes.
Hester was charged with first-degree burglary, breaking and entering a residence, larceny of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond.
