Man avoids life sentence in murder of Fayetteville father
One of the men charged with robbing and killing a Fayetteville father three years ago pleaded guilty Thursday to avoid a possible life sentence.

Kourtney Terrell Reed, 23, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and two counts of first-degree kidnapping in the death of Errol Williams and was sentenced to 190 to 240 months in prison. He had been scheduled to go to trial next week on a charge of first-degree murder, which would have carried a sentence of life in prison without parole if he was convicted.
Three men robbed Williams, 27, in the parking lot of a Kangaroo Express at 5642 Bragg Blvd. on Sept. 1, 2013. Two of the men got into Williams' car and forced him to drive to the Gregory Street area off Shaw Road, where they shot and killed him when he tried to run to safety, police said.
Reed was apprehended about 10 days later in St. Pauls.
Kelly Eugene Elliott, 33, and Joseph DeShawn Haskins, 23, are awaiting trial in the death of Williams, a Navy veteran and the father of two.
