Man arrested in fatal Raleigh shooting

Raleigh police arrested a 34-year-old man and charged him with murder in connection with a fatal shooting early Tuesday on Cross Street.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police arrested a 34-year-old man and charged him with murder in connection with a fatal shooting early Tuesday on Cross Street.

Brandon Danyell Reid is accused of shooting Darrice Jamar Covington, 24, at 1507 Cross St., shortly before 6 a.m.

Covington was transported to WakeMed Hospital, where he died. Reid was being held in the Wake County jail.

No more details about the shooting were released.

Reid was convicted in 1994 of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and served five years in prison, according to state Department of Correction records. Since then, he has been convicted of dealing drugs, credit card fraud and receiving a stolen vehicle.
