Wayne County investigators said that a 26-year-old man befriended a 15-year-old child in hopes of having sex.

<b>GOLDSBORO, N.C.</b> — Wayne County investigators said that a 26-year-old man befriended a 15-year-old child in hopes of having sex.

Linwood Earl Nicholson Jr., of 762 W. Oak St., was arrested Friday on one charge of attempted statutory rape.

Detectives said that Nicholson called and text messaged the child and took the child to school twice without the parents' knowledge. Nicholson did not know the parents, investigators said.

He was being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
