APEX, N.C. — An Apex man has been arrested after he allegedly shot a woman outside a home over the weekend.

Ricky Lane McNeil, 51, of 2713-D Blazing Trail, faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with the shooting Saturday night of Joyce Womble.

A search warrant returned Tuesday cites two witnesses telling Wake County sheriff's deputies that they were watching TV when a man known to one of the witnesses as Ricky arrived at a home on Humie Olive Road shortly before 1 a.m. and started knocking on a window.

Witnesses are cited in the warrant as telling investigators that they heard two gunshots after Womble went outside to investigate.

She returned inside, saying she had been shot.

According to the warrant, a resident in the neighbor identified McNeil as a man who cut through her yard shortly after she heard two gunshots.

The warrant does not provide a motive for the shooting or say what relationship McNeil has with Womble. A spokesman for the Wake County Sheriff's Office said only that the two know one another.

McNeil's home is approximately a half-mile north of where the shooting occurred.

Womble was listed in good condition at WakeMed Wednesday.
