WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A 26-year-old man died at WakeMed Thursday morning after being shot in the 300 block of North Allen Road in Wake Forest, police said.

Sebastian Unique Smith was taken to the hospital at about 1:30 a.m. after officers were called to 344 N. Allen Road, the location of Hope House, a Wake Forest nonprofit that has served food to community members in Wake Forest for the last five years.

"This amplifies the need for us to be here," said Enoch Holloway, pastor of Friends Chapel Baptist Church. "It just moves us more knowing that our services are much more needed."

Every Thursday, before food is handed out, the group says a prayer. This week, the prayer was special.

"We're here to help them get through tragedies like this, that's hope. That's hope," said Holloway.

No other information about the shooting has been released, but an investigation is ongoing. Authorities said Hope House was not connected to the shooting.

No arrests have been made.

A 911 caller said people in the area scattered after hearing gunshots.

"He threatened to come out here and shoot up all the apartments," a caller said.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call the police department at 919-435-9610.
