Like so many of the mom-owned business that I write about, Jessica Throneburg's Little Details started almost overnight.

Throneburg, a Willow Spring mom of one, was laid off from her job in marketing for a university apartment complex in December 2011, about a year after her son was born.  She spent months looking for another job with no luck. Then, she brought a couple of terra cotta pots that she'd monogrammed to a friend's baby shower.

"Do you do any other monogramming?" others at the shower wondered.

Throneburg thought, sure, why not? A month later, she had launched Little Details' Facebook page and, within two days, she had 175 fans. Business has grown by leaps and bounds ever since. She now has nearly 6,000 fans, a page on Etsy.com and her own website.

"It's just exploded, which is great," she tells me.

Throneburg started creating vinyl monograms for her customers. Eventually, she added embroidery and other items.

She can put your monogram on everything from tumblers, umbrellas and platters to bags, jewelry and nail decals. She makes personalized hair bow holders and door signs. And her online boutique includes wood cutouts, boutique clothing (including plus sizes), watches and other accessories.

Eventually, she'd love to open her own storefront once her son enters kindergarten in a couple of years. Still, she's staying busy at shows and through website sales.

"I really didn't have an expectation for it," Throneburg said. "When I started, I thought it was a hobby."

Throneburg credits her membership with Vend Raleigh, a networking group and directory for mom-owned businesses, and the Junior League of Raleigh for helping her build her business. Through both, she's found valuable connections and advice.

"I love it," she said. "I can't imagine doing something else. It's cool to have my passions and still be home with my son."
