Lumberton man, 89, charged with sex assault
A Lumberton man faces a sex assault charge for a crime against a 12-year-old girl, a spokeswoman for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — A Lumberton man faces a sex assault charge for a crime against a 12-year-old girl, a spokeswoman for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
William Herlson Knight, 89, of 117 Summer Lane, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of first-degree sexual offense, according to Lt. Kathy Torre of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. He was placed on house arrest.
Torre said the alleged assault occurred March 28, and the child immediately told her mother, but it took time to conduct the investigation before Knight's arrest.
