GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A 35-year-old Wilson County man was taken to the hospital early Friday after he sideswiped a State Highway Patrol car on U.S. Highway 13 in Wayne County, authorities said.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. when K.R. Donald, of Lucama, hit a highway patrol car that had pulled onto the shoulder of the road near Brentwood Drive. Donald told authorities he lost control of his 2003 Toyota Avalon after sneezing.

Both vehicles were totaled in the wreck, highway patrol officials said.

Trooper M.G. Conley was inside his patrol car finishing a collision report at the time of the wreck, but was uninjured.

Donald, who was charged with failure to reduce speed, was taken to the hospital with chest pains due to his car's airbag.
