Lowes Foods closes 3 old stores to make room for new

Lowes Foods at 210 Avery Ave., in Morganton, and two JustSave stores at 807 Main St., in Scotland Neck, and 516 E. Nash St., in Spring Hope, will close by mid-November.

Employees in the closing stores will be offered positions at other Lowes Foods and JustSave stores, and some may be eligible for financial assistance to transition to new positions.

Company representatives said the store closings are a part of an “aggressive capital expansion program” for 2014. Construction is expected to begin this week on a store in Jacksonville, and stores are currently under construction in Carolina Forest and Pawleys Island, S.C.

The company said it also plans to remodel many of its stores in the Carolinas.
