Long-serving State Fair policeman dies

Lt. John Jernigan was in the hospital recovering from back surgery when he suffered a heart attack.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Lt. John Jernigan, 77, of the North Carolina State Fair Police died Thursday, a spokesman with the state Department of Agriculture said.

Jernigan was in the hospital recovering from back surgery when he suffered a heart attack. He had served the State Fair for 55 years.
