Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 7.

The nationwide event is held each year on the first Saturday in May. Most events begin around 10 a.m. and last throughout the entire day, but many families will arrive early to get first-pick of the free comic books.

Here's a list of local events. All will offer free comic books, and some stores have sales and special events. Happy reading!

Ultimate Comics (Raleigh)

Ultimate Comics (Cary)

1301 Buck Jones Road

This is one of the largest events in the area. According to organizers, there will be bags of free comics, cosplayers, sales, comic creator signings and more. Meet comic creators and artists and visit the giant outdoor tent sale, featuring books for $3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., $2 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and $1 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Blood Connection will be on-site between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and donors will receive $20 gift cards.
