Lion cubs on exhibit at N.C. Zoo
Four lion cubs, born to mom Mekita in July, are now on exhibit at the N.C. Zoo in Asheboro.
Posted — UpdatedIt's the first time in eight years that visitors have had the opportunity to see lion cubs at the zoo.
The zoo likely won't be a permanent home for the cubs.
It they are male, these babies will ultimately be separated from their parents, said Jennifer Ireland, an animal management supervisor in August shortly after they were born. “In the wild, male cubs leave the pride they are born into. In addition, many AZA zoos are looking for lions, so our new cubs will eventually go to a new home.”
The zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily, through the end of October when the hours change to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily.
