This Richmond County town bearing the name of Shakespeare's famous Danish tragedy is named for its small size. It's a train town and was once the hub of the seaboard. It hosts an annual train festival in October.
This Buncombe County town was named for the forest in Shakespeare's comedy "As You Like It." It lies at 2225 feet above sea level, near Asheville.
This eastern Carteret County town was a popular place in Shakespeare's history plays, but it's really named for a city in Massachusetts. This fishing community was settled in 1800.
This town evokes the Italian setting of "The Merchant of Venice," but it's actually named after a New York banker. This town lies west of Charlotte, is the home of Belmont Abbey College and has a population of 8,705.
