Aurora

This Beaufort County town that lies on the Pamlico River was named for a newspaper. With a population of 583, the town boasts a fossil museum and phosphate mine.

Ellerbe

This Richmond County town of 1,021 has an impressive local museum. It's a trucking town that was founded in 1911.

Oakboro

This Stanly County town was once a mill town and today throws a big Fourth of July celebration. Incorporated in 1915, this town was once called Furr City.

Arcola

The southeast Warren County town has a post office established in 1849. It lies near Fishing Creek, southeast of Warrenton and between Interstates 85 and 95.

Okisko

This western Pasquotank County town was named for the leader of the Yeopim Indians. It was settled before 1890 and lies southwest of Elizabeth City and northeast of Edenton.
