Back from Boone

Posted Updated

Thanks for all of your nice comments last week on the Empty Nest blog. I just wanted to update everyone on moving my son Will into Appalachian State University in Boone as a freshman.

It was a very smooth process. A cheerful army of volunteers made everything click like clockwork. We were quickly directed to Will's dorm near the football stadium. Our pass gave us only 30 minutes in the parking lot behind the dorm but with so many students and other volunteers helping to take Will's stuff up to his 8th floor room we made it out almost in time.

One pleasant surprise. We ran into Appalachian State Chancellor Kenneth Peacock at Eggers Dorm where Will is staying. The chancellor struck up a warm conversation with us and had his photograph taken with Will. Dr. Peacock impressed me by quoting some comments from our Carolina Conversations blog! He reads it!  He is such a positive and outgoing presence on campus and a tremendous supporter of the back-to-back national championship football team at Boone.

Chancellor Peacock did rib me about the UNC t-shirt I was wearing. He said "Why stop at the Hill when you can go all the way to the Mountaintop?"
