RALEIGH, N.C. — A Siberian Husky is underwent a revolutionary surgery at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine on Thursday.

Zeus received an ankle implant. The more than four hour surgery fused a prosthetic limb with the dog's bones.

The dog's ankle was injured when he was a puppy during an attack by another dog. The injury limited him to the use of only three legs.

The surgery was the third of its kind performed at the university.

This surgery is classified as "investigative" so there is no set price for the procedure, NC State spokeswoman Tracey Peake said.  Each implant surgery is unique.

Zeus is expected to be released from the hospital next week.
