Truck goes pink to raise breast cancer awareness
When you envision a propane truck, the color pink probably doesn’t come to mind. But for Kemp and Hal Johnson, owners of K.B. Johnson Oil and Gas Company in Fuquay-Varina, it was exactly what they saw.
Posted — UpdatedFUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — When you envision a propane truck, the color pink probably doesn’t come to mind. But for Kemp and Hal Johnson, owners of K.B. Johnson Oil and Gas Company in Fuquay-Varina, it was exactly what they saw.
The Johnson brothers made one of their trucks pink to raise awareness about breast cancer. Kemp Johnson’s mother-in-law, Susan Vuncannon, is an 18-year cancer survivor. A family friend, Vicky Powell, is a seven-year cancer survivor.
A penny of every gallon delivered will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer.
“We know that the benefits will serve our customer base in this local area,” Kemp Johnson said. “The main thing is the visibility and the awareness.”
They hope the truck will get people asking questions.
“We hope that we can be able to hand them some information right out of our truck here while we're making deliveries,” said Hal Johnson.
But first, the Johnson brothers need to convince their dad, Harold, to put the new truck to work.
“It's so pretty. We hate to go down a road and get it scratched up,” said Harold Johnson.
Powell and Vuncannon said they were happy to be part of the inspiration behind the propane truck.
“Few sights in my life have brought me the surprise and the joy that the first glimpse of this pink and white truck did,” Powell said.
“We are hoping that many lives are saved by this truck,” Vuncannon said.
