Flu vaccination blitz will target 10,000 health care workers

The blitz will begin Wednesday and will include 10 hospitals, clinics and health departments in Wake and Durham counties, a Duke Medicine spokeswoman said.

In Durham, workers at the Durham VA Medical Center, N.C. Select Specialty Hospital and Lincoln Community Health Center will be vaccinated. In Raleigh, workers at Rex Healthcare and Holly Hill hospitals will receive vaccinations. The Durham and Wake County health departments will also participate.

The spokeswoman said the blitz will also serve as a drill to test the ability to handle a mass vaccination in the event of an outbreak of disease.

Last year, more than 8,000 workers were vaccinated in one day in the Durham Regional, Duke University and Duke Raleigh hospitals, as well as the Duke Primary Care and Duke Private Diagnostic clinics.
