RALEIGH, N.C. — When athletes from the United States compete in London during the next two weeks, there will be plenty of aches, pains and injuries.

Hundreds of medical personnel, including some local chiropractors, will be on the ground in Great Britain to assist American athletes reaching for gold.

Dr. Baron Holt, who works at Revolution Chiropractic on Lynn Road in Raleigh, will be one of them. He’ll be part of a second wave of physicians that attends the second week of the Olympics.

“It’s going to be exciting, so I’m looking forward to it,” Holt said of going to London.

The unique opportunity is the result of a partnership between Holt’s practice and “Maximized Living,” a group that handles care for Team USA’s wrestlers and judo and weightlifting teams.

Holt said the stress Olympic athletes put on their bodies in training and competition makes chiropractic work a must. The ability to help athletes recover can be the difference in standing on the podium or in the stands.

“We have to make sure the pelvis is lined up,” Holt said. “It’s like the foundation to a house.”

The “Maximized Living” program is also designed to help athletes with proper nutrition and oxygen intake.

“Their brain, spinal cord, their central nervous system controls, everything else in the body,” Holt said. “Whether it’s coordination, their focus, their body’s ability to heal, we have to make sure everything is firing on all cylinders.”

Holt says he uses many of the same concepts when treating local patients.
